Who is SP Adeel Akbar? Islamabad Police Officer Dies by Suicide Near Serena Checkpoint

A tragic incident shocked the federal capital on Thursday when Superintendent of Police (SP) Adeel Akbar, serving in Islamabad’s Industrial Area Division, allegedly shot himself while on duty near the Serena checkpoint.

According to police sources, the senior officer suffered critical gunshot injuries and was immediately rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) by his colleagues. Despite the medical team’s efforts, SP Adeel Akbar was pronounced dead during treatment.

Who is SP Adeel Akbar?

SP Adeel Akbar was a senior officer of the Islamabad Police, currently posted as the Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area Division). Known among colleagues as a disciplined and professional officer, he had previously served in several key postings within the Islamabad Capital Territory Police.

Although detailed personal information has not yet been released, colleagues and subordinates described him as a dedicated and humble officer, deeply committed to his work and respected across the police department.

The tragic event took place on duty near the Serena Hotel checkpoint, a high-security zone in Islamabad. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a gunshot, after which officers rushed to find SP Akbar injured.

He was immediately shifted to PIMS Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. The body has been moved for medico-legal formalities, while senior officials, including IG Islamabad, have taken notice of the incident.

Islamabad Police confirmed that a full investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and motive behind the shooting.
A spokesperson for Islamabad Police stated: “Evidence has been collected from the scene. The facts will be shared once the inquiry is complete.”

Officials have not yet ruled out whether the incident was accidental or a case of suicide due to personal or professional stress.
