Punjab Refutes Restrictions on Wheat Supply, Ensures Stable Flour Prices
ISLAMABAD — Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has denied claims that the provincial government has imposed restrictions on wheat supply, calling such allegations baseless. She emphasized that ensuring the availability and fair pricing of flour remains the government’s top priority.
Azma Bukhari praised Maryam Nawaz for her role in maintaining wheat and flour supply and said that Punjab will not sacrifice public welfare for political theatrics. She added that political slogans cannot feed the nation’s households.
The minister urged Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to release its stored wheat or purchase it from PASCO, highlighting that over 200 flour mills in KP are currently closed. She advised the KP government to focus on running its mills rather than staging protests.
Punjab provides wheat to flour mills at PKR 3,000 per maund using taxpayers’ money to keep flour prices stable. The government also mandates permits and digital records to prevent hoarding.
Azma Bukhari reaffirmed that there are no restrictions on inter-provincial wheat and flour transport, ensuring continuous supply for the people of Punjab.
