Iran Calls on UN to Protect Nations’ Rights, Condemns US-Israel Aggression
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, urged the United Nations to genuinely represent the rights of all nations while condemning US-Israel aggression and bias within the UN Security Council.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the UN, Baghaei said the organization’s main goals are to maintain international peace, security, and respect for the equal rights and self-determination of people. He criticized global powers for violating these principles, claiming that wars, injustice, and human suffering are results of “militant unilateralism” led by the United States and its allies.
Baghaei specifically condemned Israeli attacks on Palestinians and other countries, calling them acts of genocide, terrorism, and occupation, often supported by the US and some European nations. He also criticized US threats against countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, calling them violations of international law.
Referring to a US-Israeli attack on Iran in June that killed more than 1,000 people, Baghaei stressed the UN’s failure to act, highlighting the Security Council’s inability to issue even a statement condemning the attack due to US influence.
Despite these challenges, Baghaei said Iran continues to respect the UN Charter and trusts the organization to uphold justice. He emphasized that “now is not the time for retreat or inaction” and reaffirmed Iran’s faith in a United Nations that truly protects the rights of nations.
