Iran’s Nuclear Efforts Aim to Improve Lives, Not Make Bombs: Masoud Pezeshkian
President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Iran’s peaceful nuclear program is designed to improve the welfare of its people, not to build weapons.
He made the statement on Sunday during a meeting with senior officials of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) after visiting an exhibition showcasing new nuclear achievements in medicine, healthcare, and the production of radiopharmaceuticals.
Pezeshkian said that Western propaganda wrongly links nuclear development with atomic weapons.
“The nuclear industry is a wide field of science and technology, and only a tiny part of it relates to bomb-making,” he stated.
“Our goal is to meet the needs of the people and raise national welfare—not to produce weapons.”
The president stressed that Iran aims to use modern technology to compete globally, even as powerful nations try to block independent countries from accessing advanced technologies.
He said the assassination of Iranian scientists and hostile policies from Western powers are due to fears of Iran’s growing scientific and technological independence.
“We have repeatedly declared that building nuclear weapons is not on our agenda, and they know this,” Pezeshkian added. “Yet they use false claims as an excuse to stop Iran’s progress.”
Iran has long stated that its defense policy forbids nuclear weapons, citing a religious decree (fatwa) by Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei that bans their production and use.
Pezeshkian also paid tribute to scientists killed during the illegal Israeli-US attacks on Iran in June, calling them martyrs of “scientific jihad” who served their country with dedication.
The attacks, launched on June 13, sparked a 12-day war that killed more than 1,060 Iranians, including civilians, military officers, and nuclear experts. The United States also bombed three Iranian nuclear sites, a move Tehran described as a clear violation of international law.
In response, Iranian forces struck Israeli military positions and the U.S. Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, one of the largest American installations in West Asia.
By June 24, Iran’s retaliatory operations forced an end to the assault, which officials described as a victory for national defense.
