Mosharraf Zaidi Appointed PM Sharif’s Spokesperson for Foreign Media

Mosharraf Zaidi, a renowned columnist and policy expert, has been appointed as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson for foreign media. The official notification for his appointment was shared by Federal Minister for Information, Attaullah Tarar, on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The notification, which came into effect immediately, replaces the Prime Minister’s earlier orders dated June 4, as well as the Cabinet Division’s circular from June 10. It states: “Mosharraf Ali Zaidi is hereby appointed as the Prime Minister’s Spokesperson for Foreign Media with immediate effect and until further orders.” Both the Information Ministry and the Cabinet Division have been tasked with implementing the necessary follow-up actions.

Tarar welcomed Zaidi to the team, expressing his excitement about working with him and highlighting the success of their previous collaboration. “Welcome aboard! You are a great addition to our team,” he wrote. “Working with you over the past few months has been a wonderful experience, and I look forward to continuing this teamwork in the same spirit.”

Zaidi, who also holds the position of Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Performance and Innovation, is well-qualified for this role. He earned a BSc (Honours) in Economics from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and a Master of Public Administration in Policy Analysis and Nonprofit Management from Baruch College, New York.

His experience includes serving as a Policy Advisor at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2013, as well as working as the Campaign Director and CEO of Alif Ailaan between 2013 and 2018. Zaidi also founded the Islamabad-based policy think tank Tabadlab in 2018, where he served as CEO until June 2025 and later as a Senior Fellow until August.

This appointment is part of efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with the international press and promote effective communication on foreign policy matters.
