The Punjab government has announced a new emission test fee structure to combat pollution and address the increasing threat of smog in the region. Starting November 10, 2025, the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department has set a tiered fee system based on engine capacity, with the aim of ensuring that only environmentally compliant vehicles remain on the road.
Under the new fee structure, vehicles with engines up to 1,000cc, including Suzuki Mehran, Alto, WagonR, and other similar models, will be charged Rs500 for emission testing. Vehicles with engine capacities between 1,001cc and 1,500cc will pay Rs800, while those with engines ranging from 1,501cc to 2,500cc will be charged Rs1,000. Vehicles with engine capacities between 2,501cc and 4,500cc will incur a fee of Rs1,500, and those with engines exceeding 4,500cc will be required to pay Rs2,000.
Payments for the emission tests can only be made through the e-Pay system, after which vehicle owners will receive a confirmation SMS on their registered mobile numbers. The government has also instructed vehicle owners to bring their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) when appearing for the test.
The deadline for getting the emission test done is November 15, 2025. After this date, vehicles without a green sticker will be fined. While the new initiative has received positive feedback from the public, some have called for lower fees and improved testing facilities.
The Punjab government hopes this initiative will help reduce air pollution and smog, especially during the winter season, by ensuring that only vehicles meeting environmental standards are allowed to operate.
