Pakistan Notes Arbitration Court Clarifications on Indus Waters Treaty
Islamabad: Pakistan has acknowledged the recent clarifications issued by the Arbitration Court concerning the Indus Waters Treaty, following its request for dispute resolution against India.
The Foreign Office confirmed that court proceedings will continue in a phased manner. Pakistan described the court’s decisions on the general interpretation of the treaty as a “useful clarification” for the ongoing proceedings.
A procedural order accompanying the decision has also been duly noted by Pakistan, the Foreign Office spokesperson said.
The Arbitration Court will consider ongoing proceedings before the impartial expert. These proceedings were originally requested by India. Pakistan confirmed it is participating fully in these proceedings in good faith.
The next phase of the impartial expert proceedings is scheduled to be held in Vienna from November 17 to 21, 2025.
India has, however, decided not to appear before the impartial expert. The spokesperson emphasized that India’s absence will not affect the continuation of proceedings.
Pakistan remains committed to the arbitration process and expects fair resolution according to the treaty framework.
