Saudi Arabia cancels Iqama fees for These Workers: Full details
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has taken a major step to support its industrial sector by removing residency (Iqama) fees for foreign workers in the industry. The decision was approved by the Saudi Cabinet, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, following a recommendation from the Council for Economic and Development Affairs.
The move is expected to reduce costs for businesses and encourage more skilled foreign workers to join the country’s industrial growth initiatives. It is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to boost investment, lower operational expenses, and strengthen the economy.
Iqama fees in Saudi Arabia typically include the residence permit, work permit (Maktab Amal), and additional costs for dependents. Employers often cover these fees, which can be up to SAR 650 annually for the basic permit and around SAR 800 per month for the work permit.
Expatriates sponsoring family members pay extra, and other costs may include health insurance, medical exams, biometric registration, traffic fines, and professional membership fees. Premium Residency options exist but carry much higher fees.
By eliminating Iqama fees for industrial sector workers, the government aims to make it easier and more affordable for businesses to hire foreign skilled labor, supporting the kingdom’s industrial expansion plans.
