France Condemns Taliban’s Human Rights Record as Afghanistan Marks Five Years of Rule

France has strongly condemned the Taliban’s record on human rights as Afghanistan marks five years since the group seized power, saying the country continues to face severe humanitarian, economic and security crises. The French Foreign Ministry said conditions under the Taliban are deteriorating and warned that the situation also poses a threat to regional stability.
According to the French Foreign Ministry, the Taliban authorities are introducing increasingly discriminatory measures aimed at excluding women from public life. France called on the Taliban to fulfill their international commitments and respect human rights, emphasizing that the continued restrictions on women remain a major concern for the international community.
France further stated that normalization of relations with the Taliban would remain unlikely until the group demonstrates respect for human rights and takes effective action against terrorism. Earlier, 56 UN member states had also issued a joint statement condemning the Taliban’s policies as Afghanistan marked five years since the group’s takeover.
