Poor Indian Students Pay Price for Modi Govt’s Negligence
At least seven people were killed after a five-storey boys’ hostel building collapsed in New Delhi, according to reports by the BBC.
Eyewitnesses told the media that around 24 to 48 people may have been inside the building when it collapsed. Most of the residents were reportedly students.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of buildings used by poor and young students. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) criticized the Modi government, alleging that poor Indian students had once again become victims of government negligence.
The party also claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had criticized students during a speech at Delhi University while allegedly ignoring the condition of the old building.
Experts say the government has failed to properly address major issues facing young people, particularly education and employment. They warned that growing problems among youth and continued protests could become a major political challenge for the Modi government.
