PTA Issues Warning for Mobile Phone Users Across Pakistan

11 January, 2026 16:40

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to mobile phone users regarding an increase in fraudulent calls and messages originating from fake UAN numbers.

In an advisory shared on social media, the PTA cautioned that scammers are impersonating government institutions, including the PTA itself, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and banks, in an attempt to steal users’ personal and financial information.

The authority emphasized that no government department ever requests sensitive information such as OTPs, PIN codes, CNIC details, or biometric data through phone calls or text messages. Mobile users have been advised to remain vigilant and verify any suspicious communication only through official channels.

The PTA also reminded subscribers that using a SIM card registered in another person’s name is a violation of telecom regulations and may result in legal consequences.

The warning comes amid growing concerns over digital fraud and highlights the need for increased awareness and caution among mobile users to prevent financial losses and identity theft.
