Prince Harry Supported by Palace in Security Dispute

13 January, 2026 14:51

Prince Harry’s relationship with the Palace has been strained for many years and appears to have worsened over time, particularly during his dispute over security arrangements.

The Duke of Sussex is awaiting a decision regarding his UK taxpayer-funded security after requesting a review of his risk assessment from the UK Home Secretary in October. Sources have indicated since early this month that the situation may be leaning in Harry’s favor, although no official verdict has been announced yet.

Despite Harry describing his previous failure to regain security as an “establishment stitch-up,” Buckingham Palace has denied any intention to interfere with the decision to be made by the UK Home Office.

A Mail on Sunday article suggested that Harry has already secured his security, and that the official confirmation would be merely procedural unless the Palace steps in. A royal aide dismissed the report as “both unjust and inaccurate,” according to GB News.

“The Palace has no such powers within RAVEC. While they sit on the committee, it is not their role to advise on threat analysis or appropriate mitigations,” the aide said.
“That is for the actual intelligence and security experts to advise on — as they do whenever the Duke’s visits to the UK are reviewed under the existing RAVEC process.”

Meanwhile, a source close to the proceedings reinforced the claims:
“I have no idea what the RMB (Risk Management Board) recommendation to RAVEC (the Royal and VIP Executive Committee) will be, but what I do know with certainty is that neither does anyone else, since they are still undertaking the review.”

The news comes amid signs of a warming relationship between Prince Harry and King Charles, with reports suggesting a major gesture of reconciliation. Harry is said to be inviting the King to attend the Invictus Games and to join him in officially opening the ceremony.
