Which Currency Notes Is the Government Planning to Replace? Full Details
The government has decided to issue newly designed currency notes following formal approval by the federal cabinet.
In a cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister House on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, approval was granted to introduce new designs for Rs. 100, Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000, and Rs. 5,000 banknotes.
The cabinet was informed that the new notes are being developed in accordance with modern international standards, with the assistance of global experts. To combat counterfeit currency, the redesigned notes will feature advanced and robust security threads.
The new designs will highlight Pakistan’s regional and geographical diversity, showcase historic landmarks, emphasize the role of women in national development, and address themes such as climate change.
Prior to the final issuance of the currency, the cabinet has approved the establishment of a special committee to review the proposed designs in detail.
During the meeting, the cabinet also directed that the draft Private Hajj Policy for 2027–2030 be referred back to the Hajj Policy Committee for further consideration. The draft covers the registration of private Hajj operators and third-party verification procedures.
