WhatsApp introduces ‘Audience’ feature to check status visibility
WhatsApp is working on a new feature to make status privacy settings easier to manage. Spotted in the beta version 2.26.2.9 for Android, the update aims to give users a clearer and more user-friendly way to control who sees their status.
The feature will appear in the status privacy settings, letting users:
See who can view their status
Confirm the selected privacy option
Check if others can reshare their post
Currently, WhatsApp does not provide a direct way to confirm the audience for a live status, forcing some users to rely on memory or delete the post if unsure. This new tool solves that problem.
How the Feature Works
Users can access it through the viewer’s menu on any active status within the 24-hour window. The menu will show a new “Audience” section, which opens a summary page with the status’s privacy details.
“My Contacts” – Visible to all saved contacts
“My Contacts Except” – Hidden from selected contacts
“Only Share With” – Visible to specific people
The page also lists the specific contacts included or excluded, making it easier to share updates with family, friends, or colleagues.
By providing clear visibility controls, this beta feature reduces confusion and removes the need to delete and repost statuses, offering a simpler way to manage who sees your updates.
