Amber Dowling-Doyle Supports Women-Only Tube Carriages After London Train Assault

22 January, 2026 16:24

LONDON, December 2025: A 24-year-old model and pet sitter, Amber Dowling-Doyle, has spoken publicly in support of a campaign demanding women-only carriages on the London Underground after she survived a sexual assault on a train earlier this year.

Amber was travelling on the Elizabeth Line from Liverpool Street to Essex after finishing work in June 2025. She said a man approached her while she was wearing earphones and tried to start a conversation. When she ignored him, he suddenly grabbed her arm, blocked her way, and touched her leg without consent.

Passengers Intervened During the Attack

Amber said the situation became frightening within seconds. The man refused to move away and continued to harass her.

Other passengers noticed what was happening and stepped in. One man tackled the attacker, while another alerted British Transport Police (BTP). The suspect was arrested at Stratford Station.

Amber said the quick response of fellow passengers helped prevent the situation from becoming worse.

Ongoing Trauma After the Incident

Since the assault, Amber has been attending therapy. She said she still feels unsafe while using public transport.

“I feel scared on trains now. I am always alert. I keep looking around,” she said.

Amber explained that the emotional impact has been long-lasting and that returning to daily travel has been difficult.

Attacker Sentenced in Court

The attacker later pleaded guilty to sexual assault. In December 2025, Thames Magistrates Court sentenced him to a 16-week suspended prison term and ordered him to pay £900 in compensation.

Amber said she chose not to learn the attacker’s name, as she wanted to focus on healing instead of revisiting the trauma.

Campaign for Women-Only Tube Carriages

After the incident, Amber began supporting a public petition calling for at least one women-only carriage on every Tube line in London.

The petition has already gathered nearly 15,000 signatures. Supporters say women-only carriages could help reduce harassment and provide safer travel spaces for women.

Rising Sexual Crimes on London Transport

Transport for London (TfL) recently revealed that 595 sexual offences were reported on the Underground in 2024–25, the highest number in the past five years.

Campaigners say this shows the urgent need for stronger safety measures on public transport.

Police Urge Victims to Report Incidents

Amber encouraged other women to report such incidents, even if it feels uncomfortable.

“Don’t stay silent. Sometimes you have to speak up to protect yourself and others,” she said.

British Transport Police confirmed that all reports are treated seriously. They advised passengers to use the discreet text service 61016 if they feel unsafe while travelling.
