Pakistan, Kazakhstan Pledge to Strengthen Ties amid President Tokayev’s Visit
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed a ceremony in Islamabad, warmly welcoming the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Pakistan. The Prime Minister noted that this visit—the first by a Kazakh president in 23 years—is both encouraging and vital for strengthening bilateral relations. He emphasized that the visit would add a new dimension to their partnership, following constructive and positive discussions on various issues. Prime Minister Sharif further stated that both nations are now responsible for the swift implementation of signed MoUs and agreements.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister highlighted that the awarding of the Nishan-e-Pakistan to President Tokayev reflects the close ties between the two nations. He also touched upon regional stability, noting that the Peace Board serves as an important forum for reconstruction and peace in Gaza, where both Pakistan and Kazakhstan are members. He expressed his prayers for lasting peace in Gaza and reiterated that significant opportunities exist to increase trade volume through joint efforts.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for its excellent hospitality, stating that “Pakistan finally felt like home.” He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s desire for excellent relations, calling Pakistan a reliable partner. The president emphasized that both nations are guardians of common values and traditions and that the new joint declarations are a cornerstone for future bilateral relations.
President Tokayev also lauded Prime Minister Sharif’s role in strengthening these ties and praised Pakistan’s globally recognized progress in the defense sector and its efforts to establish regional peace. He concluded by setting a target to move forward together to achieve a bilateral trade goal of $1 billion, noting that cooperation is already developing rapidly across various sectors.
