Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Reaffirm Strong Defence Partnership for Global Peace

13 February, 2026 09:44

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to further strengthen their defence cooperation, underlining their shared commitment to regional stability and global peace.

The understanding was reaffirmed during a high-level meeting between Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, and Khalid bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister.

Talks Focus on Security and Stability

According to official statements, the meeting focused on expanding defence collaboration and improving coordination to address emerging security challenges. Both sides reviewed ongoing military cooperation and discussed future initiatives aimed at strengthening collective security.

In a message shared on X, Prince Khalid said the discussions reflected the “strong relations and strategic defence partnership” between the two brotherly nations. He added that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia remain aligned in their efforts to promote peace and protect shared interests at both regional and global levels.

Longstanding Military Ties

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have enjoyed close military relations for decades. Defence cooperation between the two countries includes training, strategic coordination, and regular high-level exchanges.

The relationship entered a new phase last year when both sides signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Riyadh, held at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Mutual Defence Commitment

Under the agreement, both countries pledged that any aggression against one would be treated as aggression against the other. Officials say the pact reflects a deep level of trust and a shared approach to deterrence and defence preparedness.

The agreement also aims to strengthen institutional linkages, expand defence collaboration, and improve coordination against evolving regional threats.

Economic Support and Broader Cooperation

Saudi Arabia has also played a key role in supporting Pakistan during times of economic difficulty. In 2018, Riyadh announced a $6 billion support package, including deposits in Pakistan’s central bank and oil supplies on deferred payment.

These financial facilities have since been extended, helping Pakistan manage foreign exchange pressures and maintain economic stability.

Future Defence Expansion

Security officials confirmed that discussions are ongoing to further expand defence cooperation. This may include new military equipment arrangements and deeper strategic coordination in the coming months.

Both sides expressed confidence that closer defence ties will contribute not only to bilateral security but also to wider regional peace.
