Punjab govt announces relief on ghee and cooking oil for Ramadan
This decision has brought some relief to people who are struggling due to high inflation. The announcement was made after a meeting held on the instructions of Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Punjab, Salma Butt. The meeting was attended by Director General of the Punjab Food Authority, Asim Javed, and owners of ghee mills.
It was decided that during Ramadan, a discount of Rs10 to Rs16 per kilogram or liter will be given on all cooking oil and ghee products. Salma Butt said that quality oil and ghee will be available in the market at lower prices during the blessed month.
She also said that if palm oil prices go down in the future, the industry will work with the authority to reduce prices further and give more relief to the public.
Asim Javed also asked mill owners to share suggestions to further improve the quality of ghee and oil. He said there is a strong need to introduce modern systems in the market to make sure people get quality products. He added that the testing and quality checking system for ghee is being upgraded to meet international standards.
Chairman of the Ghee Mills Association, Asjad Arif, said that there will be enough supply of quality ghee in the market during Ramadan. He appreciated the Punjab Food Authority for guiding the industry in improving oil and ghee quality and management.
He said international SOPs have been introduced in oil and ghee mills across Punjab, which is a positive step for the industry.
He also thanked the authority for taking action against counterfeiters and said that the association fully supports efforts to end adulteration and fraud in oil and ghee products.
