YouTube Service Restored After Brief Global Outage

18 February, 2026 09:56

Monday: YouTube has confirmed that its services are fully restored after a brief outage disrupted access for users around the world. Many users reported problems with video recommendations and loading across multiple YouTube platforms.

According to the company, the issue was caused by a technical fault in YouTube’s recommendation system. As a result, videos were not appearing properly on the homepage, search results, and other sections of the platform.

In an official update, YouTube said the problem has been fixed and all services are now working normally. This included YouTube.com, the mobile app, YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, and YouTube TV.

Downdetector Reports Massive User Complaints

Outage-tracking website Downdetector showed a sharp rise in complaints during the disruption. At the peak of the outage, more than 320,000 users in the United States alone reported issues with YouTube.

Downdetector collects data based on user-submitted reports. This means the actual number of affected users may have been higher than reported.

Global Impact Across Multiple Countries

The outage was not limited to the US. Users in several countries, including India, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Mexico, also reported problems accessing YouTube services.

Many users turned to social media platforms to confirm whether YouTube was down, with hashtags related to the outage trending for a short time.

Services Back to Normal

YouTube assured users that the issue has been resolved and its systems are stable again. The company did not report any data loss or long-term impact from the outage.

Short outages like this highlight how dependent millions of users and creators are on digital platforms for entertainment, news, and income.
