US Thanks Pakistan for Backing Trump’s Gaza Plan, Joining Board of Peace
Washington – The United States has thanked Pakistan for supporting President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace initiative and for joining the newly formed Board of Peace.
In a post on X, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio shared a photo with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Rubio wrote that he met PM Shehbaz to appreciate “Pakistan’s ongoing support of @POTUS’s Peace Plan for Gaza and for joining the Board of Peace.” He added that discussions also covered the importance of the strategic relationship between the two countries, particularly in critical minerals development and counterterrorism cooperation.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Gaza Peace
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the inaugural meeting of the Trump-led Board of Peace (BoP) in Washington on Thursday alongside other global leaders.
Addressing the gathering, the premier described his participation as an honour and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to lasting peace in Gaza. He termed the initiative a “golden chapter in history” for Middle East peace efforts and expressed hope that it would lead to long-term stability in the conflict-hit region.
During the meeting, President Trump praised PM Shehbaz and Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff, Asim Munir, describing Munir as a “tough, serious fighter.”
Pakistan’s Global Role Highlighted
Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar said Pakistan received an “extraordinary reception” at the Board of Peace meeting. In a video statement, he said President Trump appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting global peace, enhancing the country’s prestige internationally.
He added that Pakistan’s foreign policy efforts were positioning the country as an effective and influential player on the global stage.
President Trump first proposed the Board of Peace in September last year while announcing his plan to end Israel’s war in Gaza. The board’s mandate was later expanded to address other international conflicts beyond Gaza.
