ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Army captain was martyred while seven India-backed terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

According to the military’s media wing, security forces launched the operation on August 7 after receiving intelligence about the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in the area.

During the operation, security forces targeted the militants’ hideout and killed seven terrorists. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the militants.

Captain Hamza Akram, 27, a resident of Narowal district, was martyred during the operation. The ISPR said the officer was leading his troops from the front and was killed while pursuing the militants during an intense exchange of fire.

The military said the killed terrorists had been involved in several attacks against security forces and law enforcement personnel. They were also involved in attacks targeting civilians.

After the operation, security forces launched a sanitisation operation in the area to search for and eliminate any remaining militants.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism and said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue operations across the country under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” campaign to eliminate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.
