Did Nancy Guthrie’s Suspect Visit Her Home a Night Before She Disappeared? Viral Reports Claim New Twist

24 February, 2026 09:03

TUCSON, Arizona – The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today Show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, continues to dominate headlines as investigators pursue new leads.

Nancy, 84, was last seen on January 31, 2026, at her Tucson home. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains active, with Chris Nanos, Sheriff of Pima County, stating that officials are getting closer to identifying a suspect.

Suspect Allegedly Seen a Night Before the Disappearance

Earlier, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released high-resolution surveillance images and doorbell camera footage from Nancy Guthrie’s residence.

The footage showed a masked male suspect described as having an average build and standing approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was reportedly carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.

According to a report by CNN, the same masked individual seen on the morning Nancy is believed to have been abducted may have visited her home the previous night. A source cited in the report claims the suspect was seen lingering outside the residence before the disappearance.

However, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has declined to comment on this specific development.

Latest Developments in the Investigation

Authorities have uncovered additional forensic evidence:

  • Unidentified DNA was recovered from Nancy Guthrie’s property.

  • A black glove, found approximately two miles from her home, is believed to match the one worn by the masked intruder seen in surveillance footage.

  • Separate DNA was also recovered from the glove.

Investigators continue analyzing the evidence as they work to identify the person responsible.

Arrest Made in Ransom Note Case

In a related development, a Southern California man identified as Derrik Callella was arrested in Hawthorne, California.

Reports indicate he faces two federal charges, including transmitting communication containing a ransom demand for the release of a kidnapped person and making harassing communications anonymously.

Authorities believe the ransom notes sent to the Guthrie family may have been intended to harass rather than being directly connected to the actual abduction. Investigators have not confirmed any link between Callella and the primary suspect.

Guthrie Family Officially Cleared

On February 16, 2026, Sheriff Chris Nanos officially cleared Nancy Guthrie’s family — including siblings and spouses — as possible suspects.

In a public statement, the sheriff emphasized that the family has been fully cooperative and should be considered victims in the case. He urged media outlets to report responsibly and compassionately.

Investigation Ongoing

Despite growing public speculation, law enforcement officials continue to stress that the investigation is active and evolving. Authorities are urging anyone with credible information to come forward.

The case remains one of the most closely watched missing persons investigations in the United States this year.
