How Long Will Dubai Airport Stay Closed? Here’s a Details

Dubai, 2 March 2026 – Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) remain closed due to security concerns linked to the ongoing Iran–Israel conflict. The airports have been shut since 28 February, affecting thousands of travelers and international flight routes.
The closure was ordered after reports of missile and drone activity in parts of the Gulf region. Minor damage was reported at Dubai International Airport, but emergency teams quickly contained it. Authorities say the main concern is the safety of the surrounding airspace.
Airlines have announced temporary suspensions. Emirates has paused flights to and from Dubai until at least 3:00 PM local time, while Etihad Airways has suspended services until 2:00 PM. Even when operations resume, experts warn it may take several days to clear the backlog of delayed flights.
Passengers are advised not to travel to the airport unless their airline confirms a departure. They should check airline websites, contact customer service, and follow official UAE aviation announcements.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said around 20,000 passengers are currently stranded. Assistance is being provided, including hotel accommodation, meals, and temporary support for transit passengers.
Dubai is one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, linking Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. The closure has affected global airline networks. Air India and IndiGo have suspended Middle East flights, and long-haul flights from cities such as Delhi and Singapore have been rerouted to avoid restricted Gulf airspace. Nearby airports in Abu Dhabi and Doha are also under strict monitoring.
The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that several projectiles were intercepted in the past 48 hours. Minor fires broke out at Jebel Ali Port but were quickly controlled by emergency teams. Security remains tight as aviation authorities prepare to safely reopen the airspace.
Travelers are urged to wait for official confirmations from their airlines before making any travel plans.
