Pakistan PM, Sultan of Oman Discuss Regional Tensions and Diplomatic Efforts
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held a telephone conversation with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman, during which they discussed the prevailing regional situation, which has intensified following Israel’s attack on Iran and subsequent hostilities that threaten the peace and security of the entire region.
The prime minister noted that the escalation occurred at a time when diplomatic efforts were underway to ease U.S.-Iran tensions, facilitated by Oman. He emphasized that the attacks had disrupted the delicate diplomatic process and undermined initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue and de-escalation.
He highlighted the urgent need to prevent further escalation and to create conditions for the resumption of diplomatic efforts. While conveying his appreciation for Oman’s mediatory role, the prime minister commended Sultan Haitham bin Tariq for Muscat’s constructive efforts in fostering dialogue and building trust among regional and international stakeholders.
He acknowledged that Oman’s balanced and forward-looking diplomacy acts as a stabilizing force in the region. Both leaders agreed to maintain close contact and continue supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring calm and ensuring lasting regional stability.
