Britain Imposes Emergency Visa Restrictions on Four Nations
The British government has announced new visa restrictions on four countries. The Home Office confirmed that student visa routes for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan have been suspended.
In an unprecedented move, the Home Office has triggered an “emergency brake” to curb a sharp increase in asylum applications from individuals entering through legal channels. As part of this crackdown, work visas for Afghan citizens are also being terminated. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that these measures are necessary to prevent the exploitation of the UK’s migration system, noting that a significant percentage of arrivals from these nations have subsequently claimed asylum.
