KP approves work-from-home policy amid rising petrol prices
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Monday approved a 50% work-from-home policy for staff in government departments as part of a fuel conservation and responsible governance initiative.
Shafi Jan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations, said the plan includes:
Holding 100% of official meetings virtually
Reducing fuel allowances for government vehicles by 25%
Cutting overall government vehicle fuel consumption by 50%
Police, rescue, and security agencies will not be affected by these measures.
The policy also aims to:
Limit VIP protocol vehicle and helicopter use
Reduce non-essential government events and dinners
Encourage fiscal discipline in official spending
Prioritize virtual classes in schools
Propose Friday closures to save fuel
Muzzammil Aslam, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Finance, said the KP government has also suggested shortening market hours to save energy. Most of these proposals have been accepted by the federal government, including measures to reduce government vehicle use and improve energy efficiency.
Shafi Jan added that the measures will remain in effect for two months, focusing on protecting the economy without burdening the public. Fuel supply for farmers during wheat harvesting will be ensured, and petrol pumps will be monitored to prevent hoarding.
