PM Shehbaz Sharif Decides to Appoint Nehal Hashmi as Sindh Governor
Islamabad, March 12, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to appoint Nehal Hashmi as the new Governor of Sindh, government sources confirmed on Thursday. A formal summary recommending his appointment has been sent to President Asif Ali Zardari for approval.
After sending the summary, the Prime Minister personally met Nehal Hashmi and congratulated him on his nomination. Once the president approves, Hashmi is expected to take charge officially as the Governor of Sindh.
Nehal Hashmi is a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and a former senator. He has held various political positions and has been active in the party’s affairs for many years. His appointment is seen as a move to strengthen PML-N’s political influence in Sindh.
Hashmi will be replacing Kamran Tessori, who belonged to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P). This change marks a significant political shift in the province’s administration.
Political analysts believe that Hashmi’s experience and party background could help the federal government improve its coordination with provincial authorities in Sindh. Observers also note that this appointment comes at a time when political dynamics in the province are becoming increasingly important ahead of future elections.
Nehal Hashmi’s nomination has been welcomed by senior leaders of PML-N. Party sources said that they expect him to play a key role in provincial governance and in strengthening federal-provincial relations.
The Sindh governor’s office is a constitutional position, and the governor acts as a liaison between the provincial government and the federal government. With Hashmi’s appointment, PML-N aims to ensure smoother administration and enhanced political representation in Sindh.
