Sindh’s newly appointed Governor Nehal Hashmi held his first press conference in Karachi on Sunday, emphasizing that he is “not an elected official but a constitutional Governor.”
Addressing the media, Hashmi highlighted that as governor, he represents “each and every person and child” across Sindh’s villages and districts. He said, “This is not a privileged post; it is a post of responsibility,” adding a prayer that God may help him fulfill his duties with honesty and justice.
Focusing on youth development, Hashmi vowed that the federal government would enhance job opportunities and education for young people throughout the province. “It is of immense joy that we will bring the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) to Sindh as well, with cooperation,” he stated.
The governor explained that he had informed PMYP Sindh Coordinator Fahad Shafiq that “employment, education and training opportunities provided to other youth will also be extended in Sindh.” He added that the initiative would go beyond “youth programme and computer training, but an entire comprehensive subject and chapter on education,” ensuring certifications and degrees are awarded on time.
Hashmi also announced that free Sehri and Iftar meals would be provided at Governor House to deserving citizens starting Monday, emphasizing, “This is not a party’s caravan but should be of Pakistan.”
On other matters, the PML-N leader urged the public to distinguish between news and propaganda, welcoming comments about “his personality” while requesting, “Do not speak negatively about my country, my province or my provincial capital Karachi. This is my request.”
Regarding Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, Hashmi remarked that he “belonged to a household like yours and mine,” where values of patriotism and hard work are instilled.
