Shaheryar Chishti Appointed Acting Chairman of K-Electric Ahead of Permanent Election

17 March, 2026 21:31

Shaheryar Chishti has been appointed as the acting chairman of K-Electric ahead of the upcoming election for a permanent chairman, the company confirmed.

According to company sources, Chishti was named interim chairman during a board meeting held today and will continue to perform the duties of the role until the board elects a permanent chairman on April 2.

This appointment follows the resignation of former chairman Mark Gerard Skelton. After Skelton’s departure, K-Electric’s Board of Directors appointed Shahryar Arshad Chishti as an alternate director.

The development comes amid broader leadership changes at the utility, as former Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi also stepped down. Last month, Adeeb Ahmed was appointed acting CEO, taking over leadership of Karachi’s sole power provider.

Ahmed, a seasoned K-Electric veteran, has served as a company director since 2019. The board made the appointment to ensure continuity in the company’s operations while leadership matters are resolved.

In a separate development, the Governor of Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori overturned a punishment awarded to former CEO Moonis Alvi in a workplace harassment case.

“The Governor of Sindh has set aside the impugned order passed by the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh,” K-Electric confirmed in a statement. The decision was made under Section 9 of the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, following a review of the case and arguments from the concerned parties.
