Pakistan Hikes Electricity Prices by 35 Paisa per Unit Amid Global Energy Price Surge
Islamabad: Electricity prices in Pakistan may increase by Rs 1.64 per unit following the latest fuel adjustment request for February 2026, potentially adding more than PKR 14 billion to consumers’ bills.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted its monthly fuel cost adjustment request, which will be reviewed by NEPRA on March 31, 2026.
Electricity Generation and Supply Details – February 2026
Total electricity generated: 769.6 million units
Units supplied to DISCOs: 742.7 million units
Cost of electricity supplied to DISCOs: Rs 8.37 per unit
Average electricity generation cost: Rs 8.15 per unit
Reference cost for February: Rs 6.73 per unit
The difference between the generation cost and reference cost is expected to be passed on to consumers through the fuel adjustment surcharge, which may significantly impact household and industrial electricity bills across the country.
Authorities have confirmed that NEPRA will hold a hearing on the matter on March 31, after which a final decision on the price adjustment will be announced.
This adjustment comes amid ongoing increases in fuel prices and production costs, which have already put pressure on consumers and businesses nationwide.
