Iran urges American citizens to ‘disavow this illegal war’

Iran strongly condemns continued Israeli violations in Lebanon, calls for global response
Iran has called on American citizens and officials to disavow the ongoing US-Israel military aggression against the country. The attacks began on February 28, 2026, targeting Tehran and other Iranian sites.
Iran’s Statement on the War
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that anyone in the US with a “clear conscience” must speak out against the war. He said, “This war is not the war of the American people.”
Baghaei made the remarks after Joseph Kent, the former director of the US National Center for Counterterrorism (NCC), resigned in protest. Kent stated on X, “I cannot in good conscience support the war against Iran.”
Kent Criticizes US Involvement
Kent also claimed that Iran posed no immediate threat to the United States. He said the US entered the conflict because of pressure from Israel and its American lobby. Baghaei retweeted Kent’s post and said that rejecting this illegal war is the minimum responsibility of any American official or citizen with conscience.
Divisions in US Political Leadership
Kent’s resignation highlights growing divisions within the Trump administration and his political base. Questions are rising about whether the attacks on Iran were justified.
US President Donald Trump has given shifting reasons for the strikes, and some officials, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, suggested that Israel may have acted independently, leaving the US with a “very difficult decision.”
Iranian Retaliation
Since the initial attacks, Iranian forces have launched missile and drone strikes against both Israeli-occupied territories and US military bases in the region. Iran continues to emphasize that its responses are defensive and proportional.
