Exodus Gameplay Revealed by BioWare Veteran Team

Archetype Entertainment has shared the first proper look at its upcoming sci-fi action RPG, Exodus. The game first caught attention at the The Game Awards 2023, especially because its trailer featured Matthew McConaughey and showed interesting space and time ideas similar to Interstellar. Now, after its last appearance at the The Game Awards 2025, fans finally get to see real gameplay.

Gameplay and Combat

In the new trailer, players take on the role of a character named Jun. The story takes place in the Omega Centauri star cluster, where players search for ancient relics hidden inside Celestial shrines. These relics are very powerful and can change the balance of power in the galaxy.

The trailer shows Jun fighting alongside two companions, Tom and Elise, against mysterious robotic enemies. The combat style looks similar to Mass Effect, with third-person shooting and a cover system. Players can also give commands to their AI teammates during battles.

The game also introduces a new movement system using a tool called the “Railclaw.” This works like a grappling hook, allowing players to move quickly, swing across areas, and explore in a smooth and dynamic way.

Story and Development

The development team behind Exodus includes experienced names like James Ohlen, who has worked on famous titles such as Baldur’s Gate and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. He is joined by Drew Karpyshyn and Chad Robertson, making the team very strong in storytelling and game design.

The world of Exodus is also growing beyond the game. Author Peter F. Hamilton released a prequel book called Exodus: The Archimedes Engine in 2024, which explains the origins of the Celestials. Another book, Exodus: The Helium Sea, is expected to release soon. The story also appeared in an episode of Secret Level on Amazon Prime Video.

Release Date

The developers are planning to release Exodus in early 2027. However, fans won’t have to wait too long for more updates. A longer gameplay reveal is expected during the Summer Game Fest 2026, starting on June 5, 2026.
