Petrol Subsidy: How motorcycle owners will receive monthly fuel via app
LAHORE – The government is ready to launch a new system to provide subsidized petrol to low-income people. A special mobile app has been developed to make the process easier and more transparent. The scheme mainly targets motorcycle and rickshaw owners.
This step comes as petrol prices rise and inflation affects everyday citizens. The government wants the subsidy to reach those who truly need it.
The Ministry of Information Technology has created the app, which is currently being tested. Users will enter details like their identity card number and vehicle registration number to access the subsidy.
Under the plan, motorcycle and rickshaw owners will get a quota of 20 liters of subsidized petrol per month. At petrol pumps, consumers will be verified through the app, and they will receive the fixed amount of cheap petrol.
To ensure the system works properly, about 12,000 petrol pumps across the country will be provided with modern mobile devices. Special nozzles will also be installed so that subsidized petrol can be delivered separately, reducing chances of corruption.
Officials said the system will be automated, with quotas set according to consumer need and available fuel. This will help control unnecessary fuel use and increase transparency.
The government is also considering including small vehicles up to 800 cc in this scheme, though a final decision has not been made yet.
