Court dismisses Ali Zafar’s defamation case, Fines Meesha Shafi Rs5m
A sessions court in Lahore has announced its decision in the defamation case between Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi. The court dismissed Ali Zafar’s defamation claim and also imposed a fine of Rs5 million on Meesha Shafi.
The verdict was given by Additional Sessions Judge Asif Hayat, bringing an end to a long legal battle. Ali Zafar had filed the case in 2018, seeking Rs1 billion in damages, after Meesha Shafi accused him of sexual harassment.
The case lasted for several years and included 284 hearings. During this time, statements from 20 witnesses were recorded. The case also faced delays, with nine judges being transferred during the proceedings.
Both sides presented strong arguments. Ali Zafar’s lawyer said the allegations were false and damaged his reputation. On the other hand, Meesha Shafi’s lawyer said there was no solid evidence for defamation and asked the court to dismiss the case.
After reviewing all the details, the court decided to dismiss the claim and fined Meesha Shafi, ending one of the most talked-about legal cases in Pakistan.
