iPhone Fold leak reveals advanced 3D-printed hinge design

06 April, 2026 15:52

A new report from Apple’s supply chain in China suggests a big design change for the upcoming foldable iPhone. The device, often called the iPhone Fold, may use a 3D-printed hinge to reduce the visible crease on its folding screen.

This is the first time detailed information has come out about using 3D printing in the hinge. Earlier reports had already mentioned that Apple might use liquid metal and dual-layer glass in this part to make it stronger and smoother.

This idea is not completely new. Oppo used a similar approach in its Oppo Find N6. The company introduced a special hinge design to improve durability and reduce the screen crease. It used advanced laser measurements and 3D materials to make the hinge thinner and more efficient.

Reports also say that Apple wants its foldable iPhone to match the crease control seen in Oppo’s device. Reducing the crease is a major focus for Apple.

The company already has experience with 3D printing. It uses 3D-printed titanium in its Apple Watch and for parts like the USB-C port in its newer iPhones. 3D printing also helps save materials and makes production more efficient compared to traditional methods.

Overall, Apple is working to make its foldable phone more durable, smoother, and better for users.
