Iran War Leaves US Missile Stockpiles Seriously Depleted, Report Reveals

22 April, 2026 10:12

A new report has revealed that the United States military has suffered major depletion in its missile reserves during its recent war on Iran, raising serious concerns about America’s long-term defense readiness.

According to Washington DC-based news platform The Hill, the US military exhausted nearly half of its Patriot air defense interceptor stockpile and heavily used several other key missile systems during Operation Epic Fury against Iran.

The report cited a fresh analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), which stated that the scale of the US air and missile campaign created significant gaps in America’s strategic munitions reserves.

The CSIS report, released on Tuesday, highlighted that Patriot Missiles were among the most heavily affected, with almost 50 percent of the total stockpile reportedly depleted during the conflict.

THAAD interceptors also faced serious depletion, with more than half of the available inventory expended during the operation, showing the intensity of the military campaign.

In addition, Precision Strike Missiles (PrSMs) saw more than 45 percent of their stockpile used, further increasing concerns over America’s ability to respond quickly to future conflicts.

Military analysts believe that such large-scale usage of advanced missile systems could leave the US vulnerable if another major conflict emerges in the near future.

The report suggests that replacing these highly advanced missile systems will require significant time, budget, and industrial capacity, especially as global military tensions remain high.

The war with Iran placed enormous pressure on US defense resources, particularly due to the need for sustained missile defense operations and offensive precision strikes across multiple fronts.

Experts warn that the depletion of these missile reserves may affect US strategic planning, especially in regions where Washington maintains active military commitments.

The findings also raise questions about the long-term sustainability of large-scale military operations and whether the US defense industry can rapidly replenish critical stockpiles after such intense usage.

As tensions in the Middle East continue, the report has sparked fresh debate over military preparedness, defense spending, and the future of US strategic power projection.
