Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Returns to Islamabad as Pakistan Continues Mediation Efforts

26 April, 2026 16:15

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to arrive in Islamabad on Sunday evening as part of ongoing diplomatic engagements aimed at reducing regional tensions.

According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Araghchi will visit Islamabad after completing his trip to Oman and before heading onward to Russia. His visit comes amid continued efforts by Pakistan to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington.

Reports indicate that members of Araghchi’s delegation have temporarily returned to Iran for consultations and are expected to rejoin him in Islamabad shortly. Diplomatic developments over the coming hours are being closely monitored.

Iran has maintained its position against direct negotiations with the United States, citing major disagreements. Tehran considers Washington’s demands excessive, while US officials view Iran’s conditions as unacceptable, contributing to the current deadlock.

Despite limited progress, Pakistan has reiterated its readiness to continue mediation efforts, keeping diplomatic channels open between the two sides.

During his previous stop in Islamabad, Araghchi held meetings with Asim Munir, Ishaq Dar, and Shehbaz Sharif. The discussions focused on bilateral ties as well as broader regional developments, with both sides exchanging views on key issues.

Following 40 days of conflict and a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire, Iran and the United States engaged in talks in Islamabad aimed at easing tensions and exploring confidence-building measures to prevent further escalation.
