Pakistan Expresses “Full Solidarity” With UAE After Missile and Drone Attacks

05 May, 2026 13:14

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned reported missile and drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, expressing “full solidarity” with the country’s leadership and people.

“Pakistan stands firmly with our Emirati brothers and sisters as well as with the Government of the United Arab Emirates at this difficult time,” the Prime Minister stated on X.

The statement came following a drone strike on an energy facility in Fujairah, which reportedly injured three Indian nationals. The UAE blamed Iran for the attack, although Iranian state media denied having any “pre-planned programme” to target oil installations in the country.

The UAE Foreign Ministry described the incident as a serious escalation and a direct threat to national security, stating that the country reserves its “full and legitimate right” to respond to such attacks.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in the region, warning that any escalation could further destabilize West Asia. He urged all parties to prioritize diplomacy and dialogue to ensure lasting peace.

“It is absolutely essential that the ceasefire be upheld and respected, to allow necessary diplomatic space for dialogue leading to enduring peace and stability in the region.”

The Fujairah attack comes after a period of relative calm following a Pakistan-mediated ceasefire between Washington and Tehran in April. The UAE’s energy infrastructure has previously been targeted, including a March drone strike on the Port of Fujairah that disrupted oil operations.

Fujairah holds strategic importance for UAE oil exports, as it is connected to pipelines that bypass the Strait of Hormuz, allowing continued energy shipments despite regional instability.

Recent developments have further intensified tensions in the Gulf, with reports of explosions involving merchant vessels and military responses across the region. The situation escalated alongside broader geopolitical friction involving the United States, Iran, and Israel.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the events prove “there is no military solution to the crisis,” noting that diplomatic talks are ongoing with Pakistan’s mediation. He also warned against policies that could deepen regional instability.

Araghchi further criticized US naval initiatives in the region, calling them counterproductive and stating that “Project Freedom is Project Deadlock.”
