NADRA Launches New Chip-Free QR Code National ID Card

On the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new QR code-based national identity card for citizens.

The new identity card has been developed in Pakistan as part of efforts to promote self-reliance. Unlike traditional smart identity cards, it does not use a chip.

According to NADRA, citizens will be able to verify the new identity card using a regular smartphone through the Pak ID mobile application.

The QR code on the new card will contain relevant identification information and the cardholder’s photograph. Users will be able to scan the code through the Pak ID app to verify the identity of the cardholder.

NADRA said the new system will also help reduce errors in personal information, including names, addresses and other identification details.

The authority said the QR code-based system will make the verification of identity documents easier, faster and more effective.

The introduction of the new card is being seen as an important step towards developing locally made digital identity solutions and improving the country’s identity verification system.
