Iran Warns US: Honor Commitments or Face Consequences, Says Parliament Speaker

13 June, 2026 08:57

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has issued a stark warning to the United States, cautioning Washington against violating any commitments it may agree to under a future memorandum of understanding or broader agreement with Tehran.

In a post shared on social media platform X on Friday, Qalibaf stated, “Commitments made must be commitments kept. No ifs, no buts, no excuses.” He further added, “For the close deal ahead, there is no other way. You reap what you sow.”

The same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi provided details about a possible memorandum of understanding being discussed with Washington, which could eventually pave the way for a formal agreement between the two nations. According to Araghchi, the second round of negotiations is anticipated to continue for 60 days, with the possibility of extension if both parties view progress favorably.

He noted, however, that failure to achieve adequate progress would prevent the talks from reaching a final agreement, in which case matters would revert to their pre-memorandum status.

Araghchi also pointed to a history of broken commitments by Iran’s adversaries, stating, “We are not dealing with parties that are fully committed to their obligations. They take advantage of every opportunity to break their promises.”

This follows an earlier warning from Qalibaf a day prior, in which he cautioned against any new US military aggression or strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, noting that Iran’s retaliatory capabilities had already left President Trump visibly rattled.
