Araghchi Blames Israeli Occupation for Insecurity in West Asia, Reaffirms Iran’s Commitment to Diplomacy

Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to diplomacy to prevent further escalation, but accused the United States of repeatedly undermining diplomatic initiatives by reneging on commitments and resorting to force. He also expressed concern over threats to international commercial shipping, arguing that such actions jeopardized regional security and global trade. His remarks came amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear program, with Tehran maintaining that its nuclear activities are peaceful and accusing Washington and Tel Aviv of launching military attacks while negotiations were underway.
Iran has described the June 2025 conflict, which lasted 12 days, and the subsequent hostilities beginning on February 28, 2026, as acts of aggression by the United States and Israel. According to the Iranian account, the second conflict ended in early April after approximately 40 days, following retaliatory operations and a ceasefire. Tehran has also maintained tight control over the Strait of Hormuz since the escalation, adding to concerns over maritime security, energy supplies and international shipping through one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
