Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem Announces Protest Against Federal Budget
On Sunday, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, rejected the federal budget and announced the launch of a protest movement against it.
Speaking to the media, he said Pakistan’s people have paid over Rs 8,000 billion in PDL during the last 25 years. According to him, the levy is being used to bridge missing FBR tax collection targets.
He also said that Independent Power Producers (IPPs) receive around Rs 1,800 billion every year in capacity payments, calling it a burden on the public.
Hafiz Naeem further stated that the country’s total debt has reached Rs 85,000 billion, and around Rs 8,054 billion will be paid in interest on this debt.
He demanded a ban on the use of petroleum levy funds, capacity charges, and development funds for parliamentarians. He also called for restrictions on government vehicles above 1200cc, saying such measures are necessary to reduce unnecessary expenses.
