Elye Wahi Reportedly Denied Entry to Canada Amid Ongoing Investigation

18 June, 2026 21:03

Ivory Coast international Elye Wahi has reportedly been denied entry to Canada ahead of his country’s FIFA World Cup group match against Germany, according to multiple reports.

Wahi, 23, was expected to be part of the Ivory Coast squad for the fixture against Germany national football team in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. However, reports indicate he was prevented from entering the country due to an ongoing legal matter in France.

The forward, who plays in Ligue 1 for Nice, was previously reported to have been arrested last month in connection with an investigation into alleged spot-fixing. He is accused of intentionally receiving a yellow card during a league match between Nice and Metz in May, as part of an alleged betting-related scheme.

Spot-fixing refers to the manipulation of specific events within a match—such as bookings or corners—rather than the overall result, often linked to illegal betting activity.

A statement attributed to the public prosecutor’s office in Marseille confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old Ligue 1 footballer in connection with the investigation, although the player was not officially named.

Neither Wahi nor his representatives have publicly commented on the latest reports regarding his travel status or the ongoing investigation.
