Chetan Chaudhary’s Lawyer Claims No Proof of Involvement in Ketan Agarwal Murder Case

24 June, 2026 16:42

The investigation into the death of Ketan Agarwal, a 26-year-old Pune-based real estate executive, has taken a significant new turn after the lawyer representing co-accused Chetan Chaudhary publicly challenged the police’s evidence, stating that there is no concrete proof linking his client to the crime.

Ketan died on June 18, 2026, after falling into a deep gorge near Lohagad Fort, Lonavala. What was initially treated as a tragic accident has since been reclassified as a deliberate murder, with his fiancée Siya Goyal (20) and her alleged secret boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary (22) named as the prime accused. Both have been arrested and remanded to police custody until June 29, 2026.

Lawyer Ram Sahane’s Bombshell Claims

Chetan Chaudhary’s defence counsel, Ram Sahane, addressed the media following the court hearing and made claims that have given the case a new dimension. He stated that the FIR registered against his client contains no direct allegations or supporting evidence establishing Chetan’s guilt. According to Sahane, Chaudhary has been implicated in the case purely on the basis of his association with Siya Goyal, who was Ketan’s fiancée.

“There’s No Proof..”

Sahane further alleged that the investigating agencies have not placed before the court any documentary proof or digital evidence confirming that Chetan was physically present in the Lohagad area on the date of the incident. The defence’s position is that the death was accidental, not premeditated murder.

Court Grants 7-Day Police Custody

The police had formally requested a seven-day custody remand for both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, arguing it was essential to piece together the full sequence of events. The court, after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, granted the request, remanding both accused to police custody until June 29, 2026.

The defence lawyer noted a key procedural inconsistency: the case was originally registered as an accidental death and was only reclassified as murder at a later stage — a shift he argued undermines the prosecution’s narrative.

How Suspicion First Fell on Siya Goyal

Ketan Agarwal’s death was not immediately treated as suspicious. It was only four days after his funeral, when Siya visited the family home, that his sister noticed glaring inconsistencies in her account of events — inconsistencies that prompted the family to report their concerns to the police.

Investigations subsequently revealed that Siya had known Chetan for approximately a year, and that the two had allegedly conspired to commit the crime. Police maintain that Chetan was present at the fort on the day of Ketan’s death.

Background: A Wedding That Never Was

Ketan and Siya had gotten engaged in February 2026 and were scheduled to marry in November 2026 in Jaipur. Their families had reportedly booked a palatial wedding venue at a cost of Rs 17 crore, with two chartered aircraft arranged to transport guests. The case has since become one of India’s most closely followed true crime stories of 2026.
