China Imposes New Export Controls on Japanese Companies

China has announced fresh export controls on dozens of Japanese companies, escalating pressure on Tokyo amid growing tensions over regional security and Taiwan. On Monday, China’s Ministry of Commerce added 20 Japanese entities to its export control list, blocking them from obtaining Chinese-made dual-use goods that can be used for both civilian and military purposes.
The restrictions affect several companies, including multiple divisions of Mitsubishi Corporation, and are aimed at limiting access to products with potential military applications. In addition, another 20 Japanese entities were placed on a watch list, meaning future transactions involving Chinese dual-use items will face stricter government scrutiny.
The move comes as relations between Beijing and Tokyo remain strained over Japan’s expanding defense posture and its closer cooperation with allies on issues related to Taiwan and regional security. The latest measures mark another step in China’s efforts to tighten controls on sensitive exports amid rising geopolitical tensions.
