Punjab Makes Green Property Certificate Mandatory for Property Transactions

In a major reform to the property system, the Punjab government has made the Green Property Certificate mandatory for all property transactions starting July 1 in Lahore. The move is aimed at replacing traditional documents such as fard-e-bay and other conventional ownership papers.
According to the Chairman of PLRA (Punjab Land Records Authority) Tariq Subhani, the Green Property Certificate will ensure verified ownership and possession records, helping eliminate fraud and forgery in real estate transactions. He described the reform as a historic step toward modernizing a 486-year-old land record system.
Subhani added that the certificate will be available for a fee of 950 rupees and can be obtained from nearby land record centers. Officials say the new system will improve transparency, strengthen documentation, and streamline property dealings across the province.
