Baloch Senator Urges Global Action Against BLA Calls for UN Terror Listing

A Baloch senator has called for stronger international action against the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), arguing that the group does not represent the people of Balochistan but instead exploits poverty, underdevelopment, and the alienation of young people to recruit and radicalize them. The senator claimed the BLA uses propaganda and glorifies violence to draw recruits, particularly those aged 15 to 25, for suicide attacks carried out by its Majeed Brigade.

The senator highlighted what he described as a sharp rise in militant violence in Balochistan, citing hundreds of attacks attributed to the BLA and other armed groups. He pointed to the March 2025 hijacking of the Jaffar Express as an example of the group’s operational capabilities. The senator also claimed the group receives external backing and warned that attacks on infrastructure threaten regional connectivity, investment projects, and economic development.

Calling for the BLA and its Majeed Brigade to be listed under the UN Security Council’s 1267 sanctions regime, the senator argued that such a move would help disrupt the group’s financing and international operations. He stressed, however, that security measures alone would not bring lasting peace, urging parallel efforts focused on governance reforms, political inclusion, economic development, and addressing longstanding grievances in Balochistan.
