D-8 and OPEC Secretaries-General Extend Condolences to Iran

The Secretary-General of the Developing Eight (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation, Sohail Mahmood, and the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) have conveyed condolences to Iran following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The messages were part of a series of international expressions of sympathy received by Iranian authorities during the official mourning period.
Sohail Mahmood met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Friday after traveling to the Iranian capital to attend official commemorative ceremonies. During the meeting, Mahmood expressed condolences to the Iranian leadership and conveyed the D-8 Secretariat’s solidarity with the government and people of Iran.
Mahmood also briefed Araghchi on the D-8 Secretariat’s upcoming programs and meetings, emphasizing the importance of Iran’s continued participation in the organization’s future activities. Iranian officials said the discussions also covered ongoing cooperation between Iran and the D-8 member states.
