OCAC Warns Government of Potential Petrol Shortage, Urges Immediate Action

The Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) has warned the government of a potential petrol shortage in Pakistan, calling for urgent intervention to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies. According to the council, the country’s petrol reserves stand at approximately 370,000 tons, providing only around 15 days of coverage, while delays in customs clearance are preventing imported fuel from reaching the domestic market.
OCAC cautioned that continued delays in clearing imported petroleum products through customs could lead to fuel shortages in various parts of the country. The council also urged the government to expedite the customs process to avoid disruptions in the supply chain and maintain adequate fuel availability nationwide.
The council further called for the immediate release of Rs66.7 billion in pending claims owed to oil marketing companies, warning that the financial strain could undermine their ability to import petroleum products. OCAC stressed that without swift government action, Pakistan could face disruptions in petrol supplies and localized shortages in the coming weeks.
