Lebanon Arrests Suspected Mossad Spy Accused of Assisting in Hezbollah Commanders’ Killings

Lebanese authorities have arrested a man suspected of spying for Israel and allegedly providing intelligence that contributed to the assassination of several senior Hezbollah commanders, including Fuad Shukr and Ibrahim Aqil, according to a judicial official. The Lebanese national was detained last week at Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut as he was preparing to travel to Iraq.
According to the official, investigators believe the suspect was affiliated with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and had access to sensitive information. Authorities had reportedly been monitoring his communications with what they described as suspicious foreign phone numbers before his arrest. Preliminary findings indicate that he frequently traveled between Lebanon and Iraq and allegedly met individuals linked to Mossad in Turkiye, where he is accused of passing on intelligence gathered in Beirut.
The judicial source said the information allegedly supplied by the suspect helped identify targets in Israeli strikes that killed four senior Hezbollah security officials in 2024. Among those were Fuad Shukr, who was killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs in August 2024, and Ibrahim Aqil, who was killed in a separate Israeli operation the following month.
